The Murphy Shield

The club entered the national Murphy Shield knock-out competition again in 2026. Drawn against Bowden Croquet Club, Altringham, in the first round, the team comprising Dave, Stuart, Tony and Pauline, achieved an excellent 4-3 win. The club was drawn to play Southport in the next round but a date could not be agreed and the club withdrew from the competition. The full draw can be seen on the Croquet England website here.

The Tier 3 Bowl

This national competition is similar in format to the Murphy Shield but restricted to players with a handicap of 5 or higher. The club team, comprising Pauline, Judy, Claire and Marion, drew Ashby in the second round having had a bye in the first. The match was played on 9 June and was won by Ashby 6-1.

Judy has given the following match report: “The team played well against some very strong opposition. The score of Ashby 6 – Branston 1 does not reflect how close many of the matches were. In spite of the weather and the difficult travel it was an enjoyable day and we’ll have another go next year.”

The full draw can be seen on the Croquet England website here.

Regional League

The Club enters three teams in the level play league organised by the Federation of East Midlands Croquet Clubs (FEMCC).
